California Virtual Academy Student Shoots for the Stars on American Idol; rooting for one of their own, Thia Megia
SIMI VALLEY, Calif., March 18, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- California Virtual Academies (CAVA) is proud to watch one of its own students vie for the title of "American Idol." Sixteen year old Sophomore Thia Megia has made it as a top 11 finalist in the popular singing competition, earning praise from the panel of celebrity judges, and even a vocal comparison to the late Michael Jackson.
"Our school is behind Thia all the way and cheering her on as she goes after her dream," said Katrina Abston, CAVA Head of School. "It's been fun to watch many of her schoolmates reach out to Thia to wish her well and share their own stories and experiences as a student in CAVA."
"CAVA has thousands of amazing students, many of whom are aspiring actors, athletes, musicians, or pursuing other areas of interest," said Abston. "All of our students have their own unique story and reason for choosing our school and we're proud to serve each one of them."
CAVA is the state's largest network of online public charter schools with over 12,000 students. The school offers students across the state the ability to learn at their own pace wherever they reside. Will Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald be an item soon?!
Nikki Reed, who plays Rosalie in the Twilight movie saga first met Paul McDonald and the American Idol finalists at the premiere of Red Riding Hood on March 7th and they seemed to have that 'moment.' While Karen Rodriguez was gushing "I met Nikki Reed from Twilight!" - Nikki only had eyes for Paul. She met him and all she could mutter was: "You're amazing.... I'm blushing.... I should go" and they hugged. Paul had no clue who she was! "Is she a famous actress or something?" he queries. "I'd probably hang out with her," he added. Awkward!! Watch the video here.
On March 15th, Nikki visited the set of American Idol!
Thia tweeted this photo with a caption: "Hanging with Nikki"
Spanish singer Leroy Bejarano doing back up vocals for the studio recordings of some of the contestants (he's on James Durbin's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and this week's Jacob Lusk's Motown tune) serenaded Nikki with Beyonce's "Sweet Dreams."
You can't see them but "Thia Megia and Lauren Alaina from American Idol at my left," he mentions on his video description.
Paul didn't say anything about 'seeing' Nikki on the set but we're sure this won't be the last we'll hear of this buzz about him and Nikki Reed.
'American Idol' Contestant's DUI Arrest Revealed
We didn't want to post this BUT we sympathized with Stefano Langone's
We feel duped!
What a remarkable story except that he looks like a total clown now that a new report surfaces exposing his dirty laundry. Exactly a year later after that car accident where he almost died, he himself has been arrested for 'drinking under the influence' (DUI) in May 2010!!
We liked Stefano but this story really changed it for us. Drunk driving is a serious issue and this isn't something to be taken lightly NOT when you're in a show being watched by kids and teenagers worldwide.
E! News has discovered that Langone was arrested for driving under the influence in May 2010, after cops stopped him for speeding and failing to signal before changing lanes. The aspiring pop star had been partying with friends in Belltown, Wa., before police got a hold of him.
According to the report, the Idol finalist smelled of alcohol and authorities noticed his eyes were "bloodshot, watery, droopy and (had) dilated pupils." He was then given a field sobriety test, which he failed. Langone did admit to having one "beer several hours earlier," and then submitted to a Breathalyzer test. Registering a 0.098 (above the state's 0.08 legal limit) Langone was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Langone was booked and released on $500 bail. After making a deal with prosecutors in November, he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of negligent driving and received a suspended 90-day jail sentence, a fine of $863 and was ordered to take a drug- and alcohol-education course. He was also told to stay out of trouble for two years or he would end up behind bars.
Surprisingly (yet again!), this wasn't Langone's first run-in with the law. In 2008, Kent police cited him for marijuana possession, but the case was dismissed in court.
On related notes about American Idol:
"Forbes" releases its annual list of which shows sell the most ads.
The biggest moneymaker is still American Idol. Despite dropping 12 percent from last year, the Fox show was No. 1 with $7.11 million per half an hour!
Ranking second, far behind American Idol, is Two and a Half Men, which brought in $2.89 million per half hour show. Considering star Charlie Sheen’s recent meltdown and subsequent firing from the show, it’s going to be hard for Two and a Half Men to continue at that rate.
3rd: At $2.74 million, ABC's Desperate Housewives
4th: ABC's Grey’s Anatomy, with $2.67 million.
5th: ABC's Dancing With the Stars, also at $2.67 million.

... That Jennnifer Lopez is a prima donna "diva" just won't go away:
The National Enquirer reports this week that she was so demanding while staying at the Mirage in Vegas during Idol auditions that “she was one of the most difficult celebrities the staff had ever encountered.”
“Within five minutes of her arrival, her assistant had demanded two cribs for her 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme. A runner from the show was quickly sent out to buy cribs and assemble them, and that was explained to Jennifer. But within minutes, she called down to reception wanting to know where they were,” said the insider.[From The National Enquirer, print edition, March 28, 2011]
In the next hour, the impatient 41 year-old singer called 20 times demanding the cribs.
“She was boiling with rage that they weren’t ready - but it was the responsibility of ‘Idol’ producers to provide her cribs, not the hotel. She was every bit the prima donna.”
After the cribs arrived, J.Lo turned her attention to her wardrobe.
“She ordered 12 racks for her wardrobe changes, 20 mirrors and a ton of spotlights for her makeup team,” said the insider.
“There were around 50 people in her villa dealing with her makeup, hair and wardrobe - but the funny part is, she wore only two outfits during the entire two days of filming!”
